Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:16
Have you ever been afraid to ask someone for a favor? Have you ever wanted to know the answer to a question you were too afraid to ask someone so the question burned with you? I think our prayer life is sometimes like this. We know exactly what we want to ask God, but we just don’t do it. Instead, we let the embers of our unasked question burn slowly.
It’s not easy being vulnerable with God. We can’t see Him, but the power of His presence is so large and so prominent we cower in prayer afraid to acknowledge our greatest longings. God created us individually and specifically. He created us with the ability to read through our hearts and minds which leads me to believe He knows exactly what we want to pray for even if we decide not to share it.
I wonder if we can begin to peel back the layers of vulnerability with God and present to Him our most sacred and naked self. As women, we are often guarded by fortified walls we refuse to tear down. The problem is when we put walls up nothing comes in and nothing goes out. Prayer is a great way to reveal to God what He already knows, our true and broken selves.
Boldness comes from knowing to whom we belong. As a child of God, you have access to Him through Jesus in a way most people do not. We have the ability to approach His throne in prayer and speak directly to Him. In the days of old, priests went into the most sacred portion of the temple on behalf of the people. Today, the curtain to the temple is gone and we can go to God in prayer and enter into the most sacred sanctuary: the throne.
For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. – 2 Timothy 1:8-11
Today if fear has cemented your spiritual feet to the ground remember the Lord never intended you to live this way. He has and will continue to set the captives free. Don’t be afraid to approach God with your requests, concerns, and fears. He is more than able to bear them all, He’s got the whole world in His hand anyways. Trust Him.
