Jesus didn’t come into this world with Heaven’s glorious splendor or to parents who had riches on Earth. Jesus’s beginnings were humble. As a child, this was hard for me to understand, but as an adult, I see that God’s plans always involve humility and unlikely circumstances. I’ve had friends who planned their birth meticulously. I’ve had others who trusted their physicians to do so. In either instance, women are generally not giving birth to babies amongst animals in a stable. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable and scared Mary and Joseph were, but I’m sure they deeply felt the presence of God. Obedience led them to the unlikely place, but it was the right place – God’s place – to bring Jesus into the world.
While there weren’t any rooms in the inn, there was room in the heart of Mary, and there was room in God’s plan of salvation for a child King to be born with all power. I’m so thankful that God blesses and brings glory to unlikely scenarios that require our faith. May we, like Mary and Joseph, obey Him blindly and birth blessings into this world.
Luke 2:1-7
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
