Welcome to day one! I’m praying for your heart and mind to feel the presence of God and the peace of God this morning. In our verse of the day, we see a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ. As I read through these verses, I paid particular attention to verse 3 that says:
” Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
Physical walking and spiritual walking takes work, commitment, and anticipation for the final destination. I’ve found that when one of those elements of walking is off, the walk becomes sloppy and unsteady. At this point in Israel’s history, they are in captivity because they disobeyed God. Their walk, like ours, had taken an unexpected turn. But, even in their disobedience, God had a plan of redemption. He had looked far down their lineage and saw the perfect place, people, and time period to bring their unsteady walk back into focus.
I know that time can drag slowly and make you question if and when God will ever bring justice to a situation that you’re enduring. Isaiah 2:1-4 is proof of what Jesus told His followers hundreds of years later, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” (John 5:17 NKJV)
He’s at work while we’re waiting, and He’s at work while we’re walking. He’s at work while we’re wandering, too! As we went enter this journey of biblical reading about the coming of Christ into this world, let’s remember that God sent His Son to walk with us. Jesus is still Immanuel, God with us! I’m so thankful! Regardless of how you walked through 2020, there are enough days left in this year to learn His ways and walk with Him.
Isaiah 2:1-4
The Future House of God
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.The Day of the Lord
