In a chilling cross-examination scene, Pilate asked Jesus, “what is truth”. I imagine at this moment, God sitting on the edge of His seat in the throne, where His train fills the temple. I imagine Him knowing that this scene would culminate the plan of salvation, though, to the watching world, it seemed to be nothing but a closed door. I imagine, angels peering from the crowd, eager to see what would happen next. I imagine Satan lurking among the crowd, too, hoping that this pending death sentence would stop God’s love from being fully known. I imagine Jesus reading through Pilate’s heart like a worn book, knowing He was the true Judge yet He didn’t judge Pilate at all. I imagine here, grace beginning to bloom.
There are over 100 references to truth in the New Testament, but the ultimate expression of truth is Jesus.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6
We’ve learned about Jesus being our guide, but today He is our truth. In this world, so many lies have been woven into our hearts. The lies we believe are weeds the devil has sown to choke out the truth God plants through Jesus.
Have you been questioning your purpose? God’s faithfulness? If we still have to really worship the way Jesus commanded? If you are good enough for ministry? If you are strong enough to be the wife/mom/friend/woman you’ve been called to be? These are not healthy thoughts from God. These questions often lead us to lies: I am not good enough. I am not chosen. God made a mistake in my life.
Our Savior reminds us in John 8:32, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Take the chains off and be free. THIS freedom is the gift given to you from Jesus. Do you hear the bells of freedom ringing?
