“To whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing.*Isaiah 40:25-26*
Sometimes it takes the right kind of circumstances to cause us to pause and reflect on the massive, grandiose nature of God. Sometimes when our bodies fail us, we are reminded of God’s greatness. Sometimes when our children are ill, we are reminded of God’s long, tender hands. Sometimes when we are blessed beyond the limits of our own prayers, we are reminded of God’s attention to detail.
Romans chapter one and verse twenty says, “ For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made…”.
…graciously, God also reminds us of His greatness through seasonal shifts, flowers in bloom and rivers that fill after the rain. This Summer, I challenge you to slow down and see God in the every day. He’s right here waiting for us to notice Him and the work of His hands.
There is no one like God. There is no one greater than Him. He is our Creator. He is the Lord of Eden and the Lord of Earth.
Memorial day weekend, I walked around my backyard, I noticed how delicate the petals on each tiny flower were as they clung to the bulb. The same hand that peels back the layers of each petals is the same hand that fashioned you in your mother’s womb. God carefully took His time to create the details of the Earth and this is the same detail He gives your life and my life. Every inch of your existence is noticed by God. Your trials and your triumphs are hand picked for you because our God knows that with Him you are able to carry on. I am so thankful that He sees each of us, wherever we are, at the same time. The very idea of that blows my mind and causes me to revere Him.
So, who can we liken God? Who can we compare Him to? Who else would create us, love us, save us and prepare a heavenly rest for us? No one…no one but Him, God Almighty.
Lift your eyes up away from your computer screen and your cell phone. Take a few moments this Summer to just rest and reflect. Notice God in the stream and God in the trees. Notice Him in the animals that are so carefully cared for. Notice God in the still at dusk and in the haziness of July’s hottest day. He is waiting for you, don’t be so busy that you miss Him.
